Fall Foliage 2018, Town of Chemung, NY
Fall Foliage Colors arrived late this year. Usually by the second week in October we begin enjoying the reds and oranges, but not this year. The majority of the photos I took this year were taken the last week of October. It was highly unusual and there were still many trees with green leaves. Hurricaine Michael took a lot of leaves down with it's heavy rain and wind but they were still green, never changing color. I don't know the technical reason but my guess is the excessive rain fall we received this summer.
My husband, Ron and I drove around town and country trying to find a nice display of color to share with you. There were more yellows and golds this year. The only red color we found were burning bushes. They were a brilliant crimson! My witch hazel was the most brilliant I've ever seen. You will notice close-ups this year of "other" signs of fall, I took with my trusty little camera, since we didn't find the brilliant foliage we were looking for.
Although not unusual to see frost and snow on the pumpkin, the snow storm we received on November 15th was a surprise to us. We recorded 13 inches at our house on Friday the 16th. The amount of rainfall we received with each storm this year was over one inch. If an inch of rain = a foot of snow, it should be an interesting winter! We hope you enjoy our 2018 Foliage page!
