Monuments and Memorials
A small park located across the street from the Tioga Point Museum in the small town of Athens (Bradford Co) PA, is situated on a quiet road with stately homes flanking the park. Without stopping, one would never know that this was the location of Fort Sullivan and at one time a bustling Fort packed with Revolutionary War Soldiers and their ancillary crew. While visiting the Museum last summer, my husband and I ventured across the street and into the park. I'd been there many times before, as a member of a school marching band after the annual Memorial Day Parade. But this day was different. We took our time stopping to read the monuments and reflecting at the sacrifices the soldiers made for our freedom. The Fort was large and encompassed a large area of the neighborhood, including many private properties where private homes sit today. I took photos of the monuments and plaques so I could add a page to my website devoted to the brave men and women from Fort Sullivan.
