Early History of Chemung, as published in the Athens Gleaner, 1872, by Worden
This is a series of articles published in the Athens Gleaner, an old time newspaper, in Athens, PA. It was difficult to give this page a name even though the stories are centered for the most part around the Town of Chemung, there is a lot of background information encompassing a large area. The last of the series was written January 17, 1872. The author signed the first article, Wayfarer, but signs the final writings as O.N. Worden. It includes a good percentage of writings on the Baptist Church origins in the Chemung River Valley, including information on Wellsburg, NY. It's quite a set of writings and stories; entertaining with no reference to back it up. Don't take his work as Gospel, as they say, but hopefully you will enjoy it, and there is accurate information throughout the piece with some corrections at the very end.
I have to apologize for the quality of the print. I found this series glued to pages in an old scrapbook. Some editing helped to make it readable.
