On County Rt 3 (Wyncoop Creek Rd), north of the Hogback and W. Thomas Rds, about 300 feet west of the road in a field, Town of Chemung.(I spoke with Carlton Warren. He indicated that when he farmed the field, he worked around the cemetery. However, it has been many years since he farmed, and he and others feel that much of the site has been destroyed.-Joan Shafer).
This is a very old burial site. We do not know the total number of people buried in this plot 'nor all of their names. Perhaps a Warren Family Bible could give us an idea of early deaths of the family in Chemung that might be buried there. There is an incomplete listing on-line at the Joyce Tice Tri-County Website. The page can be viewed here: http://www.joycetice.com/cemc/warren.htm
A special thanks to Larry Parks for helping us to locate this cemetery. This is his description of where the cemetery is located:
It is about 7 miles up Wynkoop Creek Rd from Chemung, about a quarter mile past Hogback Rd (within that seven miles), and just past Thomas Rd where the road makes a sharp right turn to cross Wynkoop Creek. If there was no snow on the ground you would see the grass is a different color over the cemetery. The cemetery is straight ahead before you make the turn.
In referencing this photo: Go straight thru the telephone pole on the left. The cemetery is in the middle of the field. Your description is correct. I knew Carlton Warren and that he owned that land but the cemetery is so old I didn't know it belonged to the Warren family.knew Carlton Warren and that he owned that land but the cemetery is so old I didn't know it belonged to the Warren family. Here are a few more photos of the area in question. When we look on a "google map" we find a patch of weeds, or grass of a different color to the left of the barn and back a little ways. That is where we believe this cemetery to be located.
